Chau Kaizen runs MMA striking classes at Prospect, about 10 minutes north of the Adelaide CBD. Sessions are for ages 14 and over, run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, and are open to complete beginners as well as people who have trained before. Your first class is free, and you book it online.
MMA is the sport that brings striking and grappling together. At Chau Kaizen we teach the two halves separately so each can be learned properly: MMA Striking covers the stand up and clinch game, while our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes cover the wrestling and ground game. Plenty of members train both, and the timetable is built to make that easy.
When MMA runs
What happens in an MMA session
An hour of striking work: warm-up, technique, then drilling what you have just learned with a partner. You will spend time on stance and movement, punches and kicks, knees and elbows, and the clinch work that separates MMA from boxing or kickboxing. Coaching is hands-on, and technique comes before intensity every time.
Sparring is part of the class rather than an optional extra, and it is run in a controlled way with safety ahead of intensity. New members take part once they can follow the coach’s instructions, and you spar with partners who are there to help you learn rather than to win.
Nobody is thrown in the deep end. Beginners work at their own pace alongside more experienced members, and the coaching adjusts to where you are rather than the other way around.

Suitable for all experience levels
The class is mixed: people who want a serious workout, people who want practical skills, and people who watch the UFC and want to understand what they are actually seeing. Ages 14 and over train together in the adult classes. You do not need a fitness base to start, and you do not need any martial arts background.
MMA and BJJ together
If you want the complete picture, pair MMA Striking with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. BJJ No Gi runs Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings, and MMA grappling shares that same No Gi base. Members on the three-class or unlimited memberships often train striking twice a week and grappling twice a week.

Common questions about MMA training
Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. Fitness is what training builds, not what it demands up front. Work at your own pace and it comes quickly.
Will I have to spar?
Yes. Sparring is part of MMA Striking, supervised and controlled, and you join in once you can follow the coach’s instructions. It is how the skills become real.
Do I have to compete?
No. Most members train for fitness, skill and the people they train with. Competing is a choice, never an expectation.
Can I try before joining?
Your first class is on us. Book online at least 12 hours before you would like to come in, so we know to expect you and can have a coach ready for you.
Is there an age limit?
Adult classes are for ages 14 and over. Children aged 6 to 13 train in our kids classes, which include Kids MMA on Monday and Wednesday.
